1. Inserting Images from Files and Online Sources

Images enhance the quality of presentations, making them more engaging and easier to understand. PowerPoint allows you to insert images from two primary sources:

a. Inserting Images from a File

  • Step 1: Go to the Insert tab on the Ribbon.
  • Step 2: Click on Pictures and choose This Device to insert an image from your computer.
  • Step 3: Browse for the image file, select it, and click Insert.

  • Step 1: Go to the Insert tab and click on Pictures.
  • Step 2: Choose Online Pictures from the dropdown menu.
  • Step 3: Use Bing search to find an image, select the desired image, and click Insert.

Tip: Ensure that online images are properly credited or licensed for use.

2. Resizing, Cropping, and Rotating Images

a. Resizing Images

  • After inserting an image, you can resize it by selecting the image and dragging one of the corner handles while holding the Shift key (to maintain aspect ratio).
  • You can also adjust the size using the Height and Width fields in the Format tab under Picture Tools.

b. Cropping Images

  • Cropping helps to remove unwanted parts of an image or focus on a specific section.
  • Step 1: Select the image and go to the Format tab.
  • Step 2: Click Crop in the Size group.
  • Step 3: Use the black cropping handles to cut the edges of the image.
  • Step 4: Press Enter or click outside the image to finalize the crop.

c. Rotating Images

  • To rotate an image, select it and use the Rotation Handle (a circular arrow at the top of the image).
  • You can also rotate by specific degrees by selecting the image, going to the Format tab, and using the Rotate options.

3. Applying Picture Effects (Shadows, Borders, etc.)

PowerPoint offers a variety of effects to enhance images, such as shadows, borders, reflections, and more.

a. Adding Picture Borders

  • Step 1: Select the image, and in the Format tab under Picture Tools, click Picture Border.
  • Step 2: Choose the color and weight (thickness) for the border.

b. Applying Shadows

  • Step 1: Go to the Format tab and click Picture Effects.
  • Step 2: Hover over Shadow, and you’ll see various shadow options (outer, inner, perspective).
  • Step 3: Click on the shadow effect you want to apply.

c. Using Picture Styles

  • In the Format tab under Picture Styles, PowerPoint provides pre-designed styles that combine borders, shadows, reflections, and more.
