Assignment 1: PowerPoint Exploration

Objective: Familiarize yourself with the PowerPoint interface and create a basic presentation.

  • Task: Open MS PowerPoint and explore the interface. Identify key areas like the ribbon, slide pane, notes section, and design tab. Write a short report (200-300 words) describing these elements and their functions.

Assignment 2: Creating Your First Presentation

Objective: Learn how to create a basic PowerPoint presentation.

  • Task: Create a 3-slide presentation about your favorite hobby. The first slide should be the title, the second should list reasons why you enjoy the hobby, and the third should contain an image related to it. Save the presentation and submit it.

Assignment 3: Slide Structure Practice

Objective: Understand the structure of Title and Content slides in PowerPoint.

  • Task: Create a new presentation with at least 4 slides:

1.     Title Slide (Your name and title: "My Favorite Things")

2.     Content Slide (List 3 favorite foods)

3.     Content Slide (List 3 favorite movies)

4.     Content Slide (List 3 favorite places)

  • Use bullet points for the content slides.

Assignment 4: Formatting a Slide

Objective: Practice formatting a basic slide.

  • Task: Create a single slide presentation with your name and a brief introduction (2-3 sentences). Change the font, color, and size of the text. Insert a background image or use one of the pre-made themes.

Assignment 5: Presentation Review

Objective: Review and critique a peer’s presentation.

  • Task: Swap presentations with a classmate and provide feedback on the slide structure, content, and overall appearance. Write a 100-150 word review of their work, noting strengths and areas for improvement.

Solution 1: PowerPoint Exploration

Key elements of the PowerPoint interface:

  • Ribbon: The ribbon at the top contains tabs like Home, Insert, Design, and more. Each tab has groups of commands related to slide creation and formatting.
  • Slide Pane: This shows the slide you are currently working on. You can add text, images, and other elements here.
  • Slides/Outline Pane: Located on the left side, it displays a thumbnail view of all the slides in your presentation. You can rearrange or delete slides from here.
  • Notes Section: This area is located below the slide pane, allowing you to add speaker notes.
  • Design Tab: This tab lets you apply themes and change the layout and design of your presentation.

Solution 4: Formatting a Slide

1.     Create a Slide with the following content:

o    Title: "Introduction"

2.     Apply formatting:

o    Change the font to Arial, size to 24, and color to dark blue.

o    For the body text, change the font to Calibri, size to 20, and color to black.

o    Add a background image of a city skyline or a relevant theme from the Design tab.

Solution 5: Presentation Review

Review of a peer’s presentation:

  • Strengths:
    • The presentation has a clear structure, with each slide containing relevant content.
    • The font and colors are easy to read and visually appealing.
    • The use of images enhances the overall appearance of the presentation.
  • Areas for Improvement:
    • You could add more variety to the slide layouts, such as using a bullet-point list or different templates.
    • Some of the text could be shortened to make the slides less crowded.
    • Including transitions between slides would make the presentation smoother and more engaging.
